New Gardens, Fruit Trees and Play Space Take Root at Barcroft
From fresh garden plots to newly planted fruit trees and a place for mini pick-up soccer games, several new outdoor amenities have recently taken root at Barcroft.
More than 40 volunteers joined together for a community improvement day on May 28 focused on enhancing shared outdoor spaces throughout the property. Volunteers from Jair Lynch Real Estate Partners, Bozzuto Construction, VIKA, Gates Hudson and Flooring Partners spent the morning working in several locations across the community, creating new spaces residents can enjoy for years to come.
The effort resulted in six raised garden beds available for resident use, the planting of apple and pear trees, new pollinator-friendly landscaping and the creation of an informal mini soccer pitch for neighborhood recreation.
While the additions may be modest, they build on one of Barcroft's defining features, its abundant green space and park-like setting. The new garden beds will provide residents with opportunities to grow their own vegetables, herbs and flowers, while the fruit trees and pollinator plantings add to the natural landscape that makes Barcroft unique.
The project also reflects the strong sense of community that has long been part of life at Barcroft. Longtime resident Jeffery Johnson, a Certified Master Gardener who has lived at Barcroft for 18 years, has personally planted dozens of trees throughout the community over the years.
"What they are doing today is they are carrying on my tradition of plantings," Johnson said as volunteers worked nearby.
The improvements are part of the ongoing commitment to maintaining and enhancing the community while long-term redevelopment plans continue to move forward. Although much of the redevelopment effort is focused on preserving affordability and improving homes and infrastructure, investments in outdoor spaces remain an important part of creating a welcoming environment for residents today.
As summer gets underway, residents are encouraged to explore the new garden areas, enjoy the added landscaping and make use of the new informal mini soccer pitch. Small additions like these help strengthen the community and contribute to the quality of life that makes Barcroft a special place to call home.
